The western part of this panchayath have ponds, rivers, streams and farm fields. In olden times these places were covered with water. This place got its name, Cherpu, because there is a mingling of hills and ponds. The cultural important place, Peruvanam Mahadeva Temple belong to this Panchayath. The handicraft centre, handloom, Khadi industries, spinning and weaving, which were parts of gramodharana continued now also. Likewise this school got its name "gramodharanam" Later, after the change of the government, there was an A.E.O. Office. The first school in Cherpu is C.N.N. High school.
